What our travellers say

Melody was my tour guide for a 28 day experience in Iran. From the moment we met I felt I was in safe and knowledgeable hands. I was greeted at the airport and given a detailed copy of our itinerary. Everything was so well organised and included little surprises that made my experience in Iran extra special. My well-being and comfort were always her first priority. Melody has a passion and love for her country that is very evident in the way she shares her knowledge and truly cares for her clients. No detail was missed, the accommodations were wonderful, we had the best driver, always provided safe transportation was so friendly and happy. The food was amazing, the culture, history and geography of Iran was incredible, but most of all she created this experience and memories for one of my most special trips I’ve ever taken. Any misconceptions or misinformation was proved false and inaccurate, the people of Iran are the most friendly, welcoming and lovely people of all the 52 countries I have visited. I will always remember and cherish my cultural immersion in Iran because of Melody, I always recommend this experience and highly recommend Melody as your guide.

Laura from Canada

I travelled solo to Iran to join a small group women’s tour. There were six of us and we had the most incredible experience, a highlight of my extensive world travels. Our impressive, irrepressible tour guide Melody made this tour a trip of a lifetime. She is most welcoming, friendly and incredibly knowledgeable about her country, its history and culture. She proudly showed us Iran’s highlights and made the journey such a joy due to her vitality and hard work in keeping us on track and on time to fit in as much as possible. We loved Iran and all its beauty and the people are the most welcoming and hospitable you’ll find anywhere on the planet. Thank you Melody for proudly showing us your wonderful country in all its stunning glory.

Julie from Australia

As a tour leader, proposed me to coach a group in Iran in 2017. I was really surprised about the rich culture they can offer to the tourists. we were most surprised about the kindness and hospitality of the people. My group and I were very satisfied about our knowledgeable tour guide. I have visit about 80 counties all over the world as tour leader and i can tell that our Iranian tour guide was the best of all. She can speak English perfect, and she can explain everything so simple and clear. Her name was Naghmeh(Melody) Homayooni. I cannot emphasize enough how important the role of a guide is during the journey. I definitely recommend everyone to travel to Iran and not pay attention to the negative and fake news in the media against Iran.

Hugo from Belgium

My husband and I visited Iran in April 2019, and Melody was our guide for a two-week journey through Tehran, Shiraz, Isfahan, Kerman, Yazd, and many remarkable sites along the way. Most of our trip was by car, with a few short flights, and it was truly an unforgettable, life-changing experience. Throughout our adventure—often long and sometimes very hot—Melody consistently ensured that we were comfortable, safe, and well cared for. She handled every detail seamlessly, allowing us to fully enjoy the experience. Her knowledge of Iran’s history, culture, and architecture is extraordinary, but what made her guidance so special was the human perspective she brought to every place we visited. She helped us connect not only with the sites themselves, but also with the people, stories, and traditions behind them. We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to have traveled with Melody. She played a huge role in making our trip so meaningful, and we hope to travel with her again someday. Thank you, Melody, for everything you do!

Katherine & Jeff From USA

Six of us traveled to Iran on a Woman’s only tour in 2019 and were transported into the land of 1001 Arabian Nights. Stunning architecture, delicious food and welcoming people. Our guide, Naghmeh, entertained us with stories of history, culture and folklore with knowledge and humor. One of the best holidays that I have ever had.

Gill From UK

I was lucky enough to join one of all women tours in 2019. It remains one of the best experiences of my life - and it was all down to Melody. She has incredible warmth, knowledge, passion and joy, and makes every day so enjoyable and easy. She is a natural storyteller, and knows the perfect time to visit every destination for you to get the best experience possible. Ill never forget sunsets at the Towers of Silence in Yazd.

Zoe from Australia

"I joined an all-women tour in 2019 and enjoyed one of the best trips of my life. There were many things that made the journey so memorable, and one of the most important was our guide, leader, companion, buddy, friend, organizer, and storyteller, Melody. I greatly appreciated her expertise as a tour guide and her extensive knowledge of her home country. Iran is an incredible destination, offering a rich culture, delicious food, breathtaking landscapes, beautiful nature, and, above all, wonderfully warm and welcoming people. I sincerely hope I can return one day to explore more of the country."

Silke from Germany

I was very lucky to join an all woman trip to Iran in 2019. We were 7 women from all parts of the world. We went to the beautiful sites and learned how to cook this most delicious Iranian food. Melody was a fantastic guide: she was extremely knowledgeable, had a passion for her country, its rich history and culture. She made us feel safe, wherever we went. She was very organised, and everything worked extremely well. Her warmth, caring nature, and sense of fun helped to make us gel as a group. She excelled at looking after us. Her English was immaculate. Iran is such a beautiful country, and its people are so very welcoming, friendly and hospitable. For me, it is an unforgettable experience, a journey of a lifetime. I would highly recommend it to anyone!

FAQS

Visa requirements for Iran depend on your nationality and passport type.
If your passport is not from a country that has a visa waiver agreement with Iran, you will need to obtain a visa before entering the country.

✔️Countries Without Visa Requirements
According to current regulations and bilateral agreements, citizens of certain countries can travel to Iran without obtaining a visa in advance.

✔️Countries eligible for visa-free entry include:
Azerbaijan, Turkey, Syria, Georgia, Armenia, Egypt, China, Iraq, Oman, and Kazakhstan.

✔️Citizens of some other countries may also benefit from visa-free entry or simplified entry procedures under specific conditions, including:
Lebanon, Venezuela, Malaysia, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tunisia, Mauritania, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Mauritius, Seychelles, Indonesia, Brunei, Japan, Singapore, Cambodia, Vietnam, Brazil, Peru, Cuba, Mexico, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Croatia, and Belarus (air entry only).

✔️US, UK, and Canadian Passport Holders
Travelers holding US, UK, or Canadian passports can visit Iran, but special regulations apply. They must travel as part of an organized tour with a licensed guide and have a pre-arranged itinerary. The visa process for these nationalities may require additional planning and documentation.

✔️Passport Stamp Information
Iran uses an electronic visa system, and travelers will not receive a traditional visa stamp or sticker in their passport. Therefore, there will be no physical visa stamp showing your visit to Iran.

Yes, tap water is generally safe to drink throughout most parts of Iran. In many hotels and cities, the tap water meets health standards and can be used for drinking and daily activities.
However, many travelers prefer to drink bottled mineral water, which is widely available across the country.

✔️For your convenience, our team provides two bottles of mineral water per guest every day during the tour.

The most important thing to know is that international credit and debit cards cannot be used in Iran. Due to international sanctions, the Iranian banking system is not connected to Visa, Mastercard, or other global payment networks.
This means you should bring enough cash to cover your expenses during your trip. Your travel agent can help you estimate how much cash you will need.
Iran is generally considered a safe destination for travelers, so carrying cash is usually not a major concern. As with any trip, it is always wise to take normal precautions and keep your money secure.

✔️Exception: In some large shops and galleries—especially carpet stores—it may occasionally be possible to pay with an international credit card through alternative payment methods. However, this is not common, so you should not rely on it.

Yes, Iran is considered a safe and welcoming destination for solo travelers, including women traveling alone.
Many visitors are surprised by the warmth, kindness, and hospitality of Iranian people. Solo female travelers can explore Iran with confidence while experiencing the country’s rich culture, history, and traditions.
As in any destination, following general travel guidelines and respecting local customs will help ensure a comfortable and enjoyable journey.
You will often find that locals are friendly, helpful, and eager to share their culture, making your experience in Iran even more memorable.

Iranian cuisine is one of the most diverse and flavorful cuisines in the world. Depending on the region, you can experience a wide variety of traditional dishes made with different ingredients and cooking styles.
Iranian restaurants offer various types of meat, including lamb, beef, chicken, turkey, and fish. In northern and southern coastal areas, seafood such as fish and shrimp is also very popular.

✔️Pork is not served in Iranian restaurants due to religious and cultural reasons.

Iran also offers many delicious vegetarian options, including rice dishes, stews, salads, fresh herbs, and traditional vegetable-based meals. Vegetarians can easily find suitable choices in most restaurants.

The official currency of Iran is the Iranian Rial (IRR), but prices are commonly quoted in Toman, which is the everyday unit used by locals.
Due to international banking restrictions, foreign bank cards cannot be used in Iran, so travelers should bring enough cash with them. Euros and US dollars are the most convenient foreign currencies to bring, and they can be easily exchanged at official exchange offices in major cities.
✔️Some hotels, shops, and tourist centers may accept foreign currencies, but it is recommended to exchange your money into local currency for daily purchases.

Iranian Rial and Toman
The official currency of Iran is the Iranian Rial (IRR). However, in everyday life, Iranians usually use Toman when talking about prices.
1 Toman = 10 Rials
You may notice that prices written on official documents, banknotes, or some signs are often shown in Rials, while shopkeepers and local people usually mention prices in Tomans.
For example, if a price is written as 100,000 Rials, people usually say 10,000 Tomans.

✔️Don’t worry if this seems confusing at first. After a little time, you will quickly get used to it. If you are ever unsure about a price, your tour guide or a local person will be happy to help you.

Men can wear short-sleeved T-shirts and casual shirts in Iran. Sleeveless shirts are generally not appropriate in public places.
For male travelers, wearing long trousers is recommended, as shorts are not commonly worn in public and may not be suitable in many places.
There are no restrictions on clothing colors, and you can choose any style and color that you prefer. Sandals are also acceptable.
✔️If you plan to participate in religious ceremonies or visit religious sites, such as during Ashura or Tasua, it is recommended to wear more modest and preferably dark-colored clothing as a sign of respect.

The dress code in Iran is generally simple and easy to follow for tourists.

✔️Women travelers are required to wear a headscarf and modest clothing in public places. The headscarf can be worn loosely, and clothing does not need to be formal or traditional. A long-sleeved shirt, tunic, or coat covering the hips, along with trousers or a long skirt, is suitable.
✔️Men can comfortably wear T-shirts, shirts, and long trousers. Shorts are not commonly worn in public places.

For sightseeing and visiting historical sites, we recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes, as many attractions involve walking.

Yes, sandals are acceptable in Iran, and there are generally no specific restrictions on footwear. Men and women commonly wear different types of shoes, including sandals, boots, and other styles depending on the season, activity, and personal preference.
Sandals are especially popular during the warmer months. However, for Iran tours that include a lot of walking, we recommend wearing comfortable and suitable walking shoes.
When visiting religious sites, comfortable and respectful footwear is recommended.

Smoking is allowed in some outdoor areas in Iran; however, similar to many countries, smoking is restricted in enclosed public spaces.
Smoking is generally not permitted inside places such as government offices, public buildings, hotels, restaurants, cafés, and public transportation areas.
If you smoke, we recommend checking local signs and respecting non-smoking areas. In many outdoor spaces, smoking is usually acceptable.

Yes, smoking is not illegal for women in Iran. However, smoking among women in public places is less common compared to men.
In larger cities such as Tehran and Shiraz, you may see some women smoking in cafés, parks, or outdoor areas.
Smoking hookah (water pipe) is also a popular social activity among some women and men in many cities across Iran.
As with any public activity, it is recommended to respect local customs and smoke only in permitted areas.

Yes, absolutely. Women are legally allowed to drive in Iran, and there are many female drivers across the country.
Iranian women can drive within cities and travel between different regions. In fact, some women also work as professional drivers, including bus and truck drivers.
For solo female travelers, driving in Iran is not unusual, and many women feel comfortable traveling around the country.

✔️ For guests who prefer a female driver, we can also arrange a female driver for our women-only Iran tours.

In Iran, squat toilets are still common, especially in public places. However, Western-style toilets are available in all hotels, most restaurants, airports, shopping malls, and many private homes.
Public restrooms are generally easy to find in cities and along major travel routes. They are always separated for men and women.

Most public toilets are equipped with water for personal hygiene, as this is the traditional method of cleaning in Iran. Toilet paper may not always be available, so we recommend carrying a small pack of tissues or wet wipes during your trip.
At some public restrooms, you may see an attendant at the entrance who is responsible for cleaning and maintaining the facilities. It is customary to leave a small tip as a gesture of appreciation.

✔️For your comfort, our team will provide toilet paper for use at public restrooms during road trips.

Internet access is widely available in Iran, and most hotels, restaurants, and cafés offer Wi-Fi.
Some international websites and social media platforms, such as Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, and X (Twitter), may be restricted in Iran. If you need access to these services, you may use a VPN (Virtual Private Network). We recommend installing and setting up a VPN on your phone before arriving in Iran.

Popular communication apps such as WhatsApp, WeChat, and email services are generally accessible and can usually be used without a VPN.

✔️For longer stays, travelers can purchase a local SIM card, which provides affordable mobile data and calling services. Your tour guide or travel agent can assist you with purchasing and activating a SIM card.

Yes, it is possible to travel to Iran with your own car or motorcycle. However, you will need the required documents, including a valid passport, visa (if required), an International Driving Permit, and a Carnet de Passages (CPD) for your vehicle.

✔️We can also help guide you through the process before your trip.

Photography is allowed in most tourist attractions and public places. However, photography is prohibited at military sites, some government buildings, and certain museums.

✔️Always ask for permission before taking photos of local people, especially women and children.

Iran is famous for its delicious cuisine! Be sure to try kebabs, Ghormeh Sabzi, Fesenjan, Dizi, and traditional saffron rice. Vegetarian options are also widely available, including fresh salads, soups, herb omelets, Mirza Ghasemi, Kashk-e Bademjan, and many local vegetable dishes.

Iranians are known for their warm hospitality. A smile and polite behavior are always appreciated. Dress modestly, remove your shoes when entering many homes, and always ask for permission before taking photos of people. In public, avoid spitting, burping, or passing gas, as these are considered impolite.

✔️Respecting local customs will make your experience even more enjoyable.

English is spoken by many young people, tour guides, and staff at hotels and tourist attractions. While not everyone speaks English, you’ll usually find someone who can help, especially in major cities and popular tourist destinations.

It depends on how much time you plan to spend in Iran. For shorter trips, we usually recommend visiting Tehran, Isfahan, Shiraz, and Kashan, including the magnificent Persepolis and the stunning Naqsh-e Jahan Square. If you have more time, don't miss the historic city of Yazd, the Lut Desert, Hormuz Island, Qeshm Island, and the beautiful Caspian Sea region.

✔️At Melody Travel, we're happy to design the best itinerary based on your interests, travel style, and the length of your stay, so you can make the most of your trip to Iran.

Alcohol is not permitted in Iran under Iranian law and is not served in restaurants or hotels. However, you'll find a wide variety of delicious non-alcoholic drinks, including fresh fruit juices, traditional herbal beverages, and excellent tea.

✔️We recommend respecting local laws and customs during your visit.

The best time to visit Iran depends on the places you’d like to explore. In general, spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) offer the most pleasant weather for traveling across the country.

✔️At Melody Travel, we’ll be happy to recommend the ideal travel season and design the perfect itinerary based on your interests and the duration of your trip.

Yes, travel insurance is highly recommended for your trip to Iran. It provides peace of mind by covering unexpected medical expenses, trip cancellations, and other travel-related emergencies.

No. International credit and debit cards, such as Visa and Master card, do not work in Iran due to international banking restrictions. We recommend bringing enough cash (Euros or US Dollars), which can be exchanged upon arrival.

✔️At Melody Travel, we’re happy to advise you on the best payment options and help make your trip smooth and hassle-free.

The amount depends on your travel style and the length of your stay. We recommend bringing Euros or US Dollars in cash, as international bank cards do not work in Iran.
