IRANIAN CURRENCY-RIAL & TOMAN

The official currency of Iran is the Iranian Rial (IRR). However, in everyday life, Iranians usually use Toman when quoting prices.
One Toman equals 10 Rials. For example, a price of 500,000 Rials is commonly spoken as 50,000 Tomans.
As a general rule:
✔️ Written prices (such as receipts, menus, and official documents) are usually displayed in Rials.
✔️Spoken prices are almost always quoted in Tomans.

A simple way to convert Rials to Tomans is to remove one zero from the Rial amount. For example:
✔️ 100,000 Rials = 10,000 Tomans
✔️ 1,000,000 Rials = 100,000 Tomans

If you are ever unsure whether a price is in Rials or Tomans, simply ask your tour guide or the seller. They will be happy to clarify. Most travelers become familiar with the system after only a short time in Iran.
